Been a while...

Well folks its been a while, but I've been busy gathering bits together! Its not the sort of thing you can rush, I've found out.

Anyhow things are now almost ready to start building the log-splitter, here's a few more pics.

New hydraulic ram, I got tired looking for something in reasonable condition, so felt it was worth the added expense of buying new, its 24'' x 5'' x 2 1/2''.

Car axle, needs shortened.

Bits start arriving...

I have ordered quite a lot of stuff at the moment, some is on back order, other bits I sort of have to wait on, the ram for eg. I'm watching the machinery sales adds hoping to pick up a second hand unit of suitable size.

I will keep you posted as to how I'm progressing... today the engine arrived, a Loncin 11HP petrol unit, this is my first experience of a Chinese copy of the infamous Honda engine. The Loncin gets good reviews, and I must say I opened the packing case, took it out, added a good quality oil and some petrol give her a couple of pulls and away she went. I let her run for a while and I must say the Loncin engine runs very smooth and sweet, so far so good.

Intro...

Hi there,

I live in the UK and cut firewood to heat our home, after many years of splitting by hand (a maul really) I decided I needed a log splitter.

Well after much searching and pricing I decided that in order to get something that would suit my needs and pocket at the same time I needed to make it myself.

So here goes...
